SYNC Gallery presents Awakening: Paintings by Pamela Gilmore Hake and Jenny Wilson
Pamela Gilmore Hake: Artist Statement
This body of work is a part of my Earth Series. My entire life has been influenced by the nature around me. It was indeed an Awakening when I realized the inspiration for my abstract paintings were of the Earth. Currently, rocks with their grandeur down to their veins, textures, and shapes have dominated my art. At times, plant life has crept into the cracks of the cracks of the rocks as well. I live in a historic house built of rhyolite, a volcanic rock from the area. This rock has furnished a safe shelter for people since it was quarried in 1885. So, how could I not want to honor their importance to mankind.
These abstract paintings are my tribute to the Earth. It is an Awakening to realize not only the inspiration but also the charcoal; the pigments and the very surface of these paintings are of the Earth.
