SYNC Gallery presents Figment: by Pam Fortner

Pam Fortner: Artist Statement

Pam Fortner’s latest body of work offers a glimpse into her continuing exploration of the organic form. With Nature as her muse, she has created fantastic sculptures, installations and images that began as figments in her fertile imagination.

Using the diverse mediums of steel and paper, Fortner continues to push the boundaries of form. Her combination of these two wildly different mediums has allowed her to create work that is truly unique. She has expanded her use of steel allowing for an increase in the scale of her sculptures. The element of bookbinding facilitates the connection between the paper and steel elements.

“Combining two of my favorite materials is amazing. I love the versatility and variety of paper, but steel has become my new favorite. I relish how dirty and visceral it is to work with.”
