SYNC Gallery presents: Jean Herman

Jean Herman: Artist Statement Jean Herman believes that art is always very personal and that both abstract and interpretive realism in art tells the artist’s unique story. Her work in “New Creations” is a series she calls “Origins”. It is all about new creations, the old and new ways to look at our age old questions of our origins. Art is the perfect media to explore old myths and new interpretations. She uses her mixed media fiber collage technique to build 9 separate pieces that tell one story of our origins.

Jean will be showing her interpretation of the various creation stories that are told throughout human history. She has always been fascinated with how different cultures and religious traditions build a story to explain “How did we get here? Where did we come from? Where are we going?” A newer version of this story is told in Dan Brown’s new book, “Origins”. Herman was intrigued by the theme of the book and the intersection of old and new thought. The book “Origins” tells the story of an agnostic or atheistic view of our origins. Yet, the call of the 7 days of creation myths remain very powerful. Modern thought often tries to merge this story into the scientific view of millions, if not billions of years of evolution.
