SYNC Art Gallery Presents: Phyllis Rider

Exhibition Statement: Separation

Phyllis Rider’s series of acrylic paintings and monotype prints are a result of isolation during the beginning of the covid-19 shutdown.

Phyllis used her time in the studio reflecting on how “SEPARATION” was affecting her current state of mind, creativity and how she could express those feelings in an abstract way.

The series has a simple concept of thought. The outside black lines, with expressive marks, symbolize an abstract, restricted form of communication that confines the center core of color. The core colors chosen by the artist were influenced by her range of emotions during this confined time.
