Nathan Dominik
Sync Gallery welcomes Nathan Dominik who gives our collectors the opportunity to see first hand and have the opportunity to purchase one of his amazing pieces. Nathans work in exotic woods, metal and stone allow the elements to release their organic shape and feeling into his creative vision.
"Loud, funny, talkative, energetic, excited, argumentative and honest are words I use and hear when discussing myself. I am a sculptural artist whose work reflects the idea of progression. Often I use repetition as a steady beat behind the work. At the same time the repeated pieces of the work progress in size, like a pulsating sound wave or ripples emanating from an object dropped in a pool of water. Whether throwing a teapot on the wheel, welding steel sculptures, or carving a block of wood, everything slows down allowing me to breathe, feel, and communicate.
My personal process deals with simple ideas which come from inner, sometimes random thoughts rather than deep concepts. I visualize the present and future in positive, lively moments even during the seemingly hard and desperate times. Traditional values instilled in me since the early eighties have shaped my inspiration for creating works of art. My mother's influence on my life leads to the curves and fragility in my work thanks to the loving and free thinking qualities she gave me. My father's influence leads to the strength and balance in my pieces that stem from the structure and maturity he taught me.
I try to create art that is appealing to all, whether it's designing an abstract ceramic piece or laminating wood into broad, even curves. Size and scale are key issues for me when planning a sculpture and most times I think big. Public art and installation work is what I strive for. However, every day I try to immerse myself in creative artistic processes; the days when I have that opportunity are the best days of my life."
